Evan Jake Cohen is a New York City-based director of photography. After graduating from Emerson College, Evan began his film career in Los Angeles, and now lives in Brooklyn with his wife and son. He’s traveled the U.S. and the world to shoot everything from narrative films and commercials, to web series and promos for major networks and brands such as NBC Universal; American Eagle Outfitters; Heineken; and Air China.
Recent highlights include THE PRIVATES from writer-director Dylan Allen, a Vimeo Staff Pick Premiere, Short of the Week’s Best of the Month, and winner of the 2017 Hammer to Nail Short Film Contest; LEMON from writer-director Timothy Cooper which premiered at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival; FILL YOUR HEART WITH FRENCH FRIES by writer-director Tamar Glezerman, a Vimeo Staff Pick and winner of Short of the Week’s 2017 Comedy of the Year; TIME: THE KALIEF BROWDER STORY as a cinematographer to the TV mini-series by director Jenner Furst and executive producer Jay-Z, which premiered at 2017 Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for a MTV Movie Award for Best Documentary; and his work as DP for Mazda’s spot “Braeden’s Story” with Minnie Driver, named #3 on Ad Age’s list of the most effective holiday ads of the year.
With a passion for narrative work and admiration for the great cinematographers of both past and present, Evan travels to the Camerimage Film Festival in Poland as often as he can, having attended five times in recent years.
